Restore Renee’s memories

Afterimage is a fast-paced, premium action platforming title centering on the amnesiac village girl named Renee, a student of Aros. Set in Engardin — a breathtaking, enigmatic world brimming with interconnected, eye-popping biomes — the young protagonist leaves her devastated village and embarks on a gripping adventure with her floating companion, Ifree.

With a branching storyline that leads to multiple endings, Engardin’s fate lies in Renee’s hands. Boasting meticulously handcrafted animations and mesmerizing backgrounds, Afterimage is a visually stimulating game that immerses and captivates players throughout their journey with Renee and Ifree.

Witness the beauty and danger of Engardin

Engardin’s genesis was borne from a goddess, who left behind four Goliaths that led to its order and prosperity. Unfortunately — with the creation of humankind and humanity’s unsatiated desires for ambition — the world plunged into chaos. The war between humans and Goliaths only ended when a phenomenon called the “The Razing” desecrated Engardin’s Holy Grounds, forcing survivors of the catastrophe to relocate and settle in other parts of Engardin.

Years passed and hostile mystical forces had devastated villages — including that of Renee’s. Now, Renee and Ifree traverse Engardin’s trap-laden biomes to piece together the protagonist’s lost memories. More than 170 unique enemies inhabit these perilous environments, and the 30 boss fights test the player’s reflexes, pattern-recognition abilities, and combat prowess. The players can also undertake sidequests and enjoy the storyline of the game’s large roster of NPCs.

On top of the staple RPG mechanics of stat improvement and skill unlocks, the diverse pool of weapons, armor, and other equipment provides room for build creation and experimentation. However, this game suffers from a few gameplay-related flaws. For one, it shoehorns you into a melee-oriented playstyle as magic consumes your resources. You’ll also have to rely on stickers to mark points of interest since the game has no mini map.

A beautiful game with glaring flaws

Overall, Afterimage immerses you into an action-packed platformer with perilous, yet gorgeous biomes inhabited by hundreds of distinct enemies and a comprehensive RPG system that lets you create the build of your dreams. It’s important to remember that this title has an unreliable magic system and lacks an on-screen mini map. If you think you can stomach these flaws, this game is worth a try.
